The National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia (NAS RA) is one of the central institutions shaping and advancing the scientific achievments of the country. Established in 1943, the Academy has, over the course of its existence, become a key platform for promoting scientific research, systematizing knowledge, and preserving and transmitting national scientific identity. As an institution with a strategic mission in the fields of science, education, and culture, the NAS RA has played a vital role both in conducting fundamental research in the natural and humanities sciences and in the valorization and dissemination of Armenia’s scientific heritage.
This article aims to present the digital repository dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the NAS RA, viewed as a modern solution for preserving and providing access to scientific heritage. The materials included in the repository offer online access to the eight-decade-long history of the Academy’s activities and development. The study addresses the following main objectives:
a) the technological foundations and functional capacities of the repository;
b) the principles of bibliographic description for the digitized materials and the development of the search techniques;
c) the implementation of the digitization process, including the usage of optical character recognition (OCR) technology.
